7 career questions to ask yourself ahead of the new year7 career questions to ask yourself ahead of the new year2018 is almost here. That being said, now is the perfect time to assess how youre doing in your career, and whether or not youre where you wanted to be at this point in time. Here are some questions to ask yourself when you evaluate these at the end of this year.Am I displaying leadership potential? That next aufsteigen might be yours - you never know.Reflect on whether or not youve been demonstrating that youd potentially make a great leader at work one day.Think about it When was the last time you volunteered for a challenging but rewarding project? Are you focused, yet easy to work with? Do you seek out constructive criticism? Are my skills up to par?Career expert Alison Doyle writes in The Balance that you should inventory your skills.Review your work, volunteer, extracurricular, and academic history to identify activities or elements of your past roles that you found ene rgizing or enjoyable, Doyle writes. Inventory the skills which you have enjoyed using. Heres a list of required skills for many different types of jobs. Develop a preferred skills list of six to nine skills or activities that you would like to utilize in a new career. Also be on the lookout for new technology that could revolutionize your industry. How did I feel about my job(s) this year? Its worth taking the time to think about this.Executive career coach Juliet Murphy told Monster that you should think about what you like about your job.Whatever makes you happy in your job, be aware of that and keep that in mind as a key driver as your career growsNot everything will make you happy at work, but always keep an eye out for some components that create a happy work environment for you, and be sure they are included in your work now and in the future, she said.Murphy goes on to say what you should do if youre not happy about your job.Am I being paid enough? If you feel like youre not (aft er doing your homework), dont be afraid to ask for a raise. If you have a number in mind, mention it. Also practice, and dont throw a temper tantrum if it doesnt quite pan out how you want it to.Is my resume up-to-date?Make sure youll be ready to hit the ground running when your next job hunting season comes. So before your company launches into an era of restructuring, meaning layoffs, or you find yourself on your managers bad side for whatever reason, get your resume ready to go.Do I have enough leisure time?Work-life balance can hard to find, but it shouldnt be an afterthought. With so many meetings, crazy shifts, and barely any time for friends, make an effort to cut back in areas that will give you more free time with those you care about the most.Is it time to jump ship?Youll know if and when its time to leave your job.Just pay attention to the signals - if you feel like your boss wont start appreciating your efforts any time soon, you make a lot of excuses about your job, or yo ure not getting paid enough for an increase in your work, it may be time to seriously consider moving on.
